How we make money
Sun Up Hunts is a free directory of hunting outfitters and guides in all 50 states. Here's how the site pays for itself, in plain language.
What's free
- Free for hunters. Browsing, comparing and contacting outfitters costs nothing.
- Basic listings are free for outfitters. Every listing goes through our review first: a license check against state records where available, or, in states with no outfitter license to look up, a clear label saying so and a link to the state agency.
Sponsored listings
- Outfitters can choose an upgraded listing, always labelled "Sponsored". It costs $12 per month or $99 per year, whichever the outfitter prefers.
- Founding outfitters: the first 25 Founding outfitters get the upgraded listing free for life. It's still labelled "Sponsored", because it gets the same placement.
- Sponsored listings may be shown first on their pages, and their outbound links carry rel="sponsored". Details: free basic listing or upgraded listing and the paid-placement disclosure.
What we never charge for
- No lead, per-lead, per-inquiry or booking fees.
- No cut of any hunt and no revenue share.
- We don't take bookings, reservations, deposits or hunters' money. You contact and contract with the outfitter directly. Messages to us come through our contact form.
Sponsorship doesn't change licensing information
Every listing, paid or free, goes through the same review and is license-checked against state records where available. Paying doesn't skip that check, change it, or change a listing's licensing details, check dates or editor's notes. A Sponsored listing that fails the check isn't published. Affiliate links
Some pages may link to products or services, for example mapping apps, draw research tools or gear, through affiliate programs. If you buy through one of those links, Sun Up Hunts may earn a commission at no extra cost to you.
- Every affiliate link is marked "paid link" right next to it, and carries rel="sponsored".
- Pages with affiliate links carry a short disclosure near the links that points back to this page.
- Commissions don't change which outfitters we list, how listings are ordered or what they say.
Other paid placements
If we ever sell a sponsored page, newsletter slot or highlighted placement, it will be labelled "Sponsored" with the sponsor's name, and the sponsor won't have any say over listings or licensing information.
