Free basic listing
Free
Free and curated, license-checked against state records where available. No "Sponsored" label, no ranking boost.
- Published only after the license check (same standard as every listing)
- Name, states and region, species, hunt types, service level, license number and verifying agency
- Website link
- Included in state, species and hunt-type comparison tables
- Claimable: the outfitter can ask for corrections
Upgraded listing
Founding offer: free for life
Optional upgraded placement, always labelled "Sponsored". Free for life for the first 25 Founding outfitters; after that $12 per month or $99 per year, your choice.
- Everything in the free basic listing
- Listed ahead of free listings on its state, species and hunt-type pages (alphabetical within the paid group)
- Highlighted card with a clear "Sponsored" label on cards, tables and its own page (free Founding placements included)
- Outbound links marked rel="sponsored"
- Same license check as everyone: paying never skips or changes verification
The first 25 Founding outfitters to take the upgraded listing get it free for life. It is still labelled "Sponsored" and still has to pass the same license check. After those 25 it costs $12 per month or $99 per year, the outfitter's choice, below the roughly $150 to $999 per year that outfitter directories were asking. Founding outfitters do not pay anything: ask for the Founding offer through the claim form. Everyone else can pay on a secure Stripe payment page with the buttons on this page.
The upgraded listing is labelled "Sponsored", goes live only after a license check against state records where available, and is refunded in full if it isn't approved. Payment is taken on a secure Stripe page.
Founding outfitters do not pay. The first 25 Founding outfitters get the upgraded listing free for life: ask for the Founding offer instead of using these buttons.
The two options side by side, and the rules that apply to both: free basic vs upgraded listing. What the Sponsored label means: paid-placement disclosure.
How to contact us
Send your claim request
Use the contact form with the topic already set to "Claim or add a listing". A person reads every message and replies. The form never asks for payment details, and Founding outfitters are never charged.
What to put in your message:
- Which option you want: free basic listing or the upgraded listing (Founding offer).
- Outfit name, primary state and region, and any other states you hunt.
- Species and hunt types you offer, and your service level (guided, fully outfitted, semi-guided, drop camp).
- Your website, and the phone or email you want shown (optional).
- Years active, and two or three sentences in your own words about your hunts.
- The link to your existing listing, only if you are claiming one.
Please do not send payment card or bank details, Social Security numbers, EINs/FEINs or other tax IDs, passwords, or copies of licenses or permits. We never ask for them in this form. If a license number is needed, we will tell you what to send once we reply. Do not paste reviews, ratings or photos from other sites.
What happens next: the vetting steps
- Submitted (submitted): An outfitter asked to be listed, or an editor found a candidate. Nothing is checked or shown yet. Rows enter here with whatever the outfitter supplied.
- Needs review (needs_review): An editor is running the vetting checklist. The row is not shown. It stays here until every check passes or it is rejected.
- Verified (verified): All checks passed: the license or permit was confirmed with the issuing agency (license_verified = true, with verified_by and verified_on), and the listing has a source, contact route and written editor's notes. Still not shown until published.
- Published (published): Shown on the site. Only verified rows can be published; the build fails if a published real listing lacks a license number, verifying agency or last-verified date, unless it is a "no public state license lookup" listing in a state where no outfitter license was found (then it needs the agency link, a source and a checked date, and is labelled as such).
What we check before publishing
- Identify the business. Confirm the business name, a working website or phone, and the person responsible. Reject listings that are only a lead-generation front or a reseller with no outfit of its own.
- Get the license or permit number. Record the state outfitter or guide license, registration, or the federal land-use permit number exactly as issued. Where a state licenses the individual guide rather than the business, record the lead guide's license number. If the state has no licensing program, record the permit that covers the operation (for example a Forest Service special use permit) and the agency that can confirm it.
- Confirm it with the agency. Look the number up with the issuing agency (state lookup, agency list or a direct request), check that it is active and covers the services and state advertised, and record the agency name, its URL, who checked and when. Where our dated state research records that no state outfitter or guide license was found, there is nothing to look up: the listing is labelled "No public state license lookup" with a link to the state agency, and is never shown as license-checked. In states where a license is required or the rule is unconfirmed, a listing without a checked license is held.
- Check the scope matches. The species, hunt types and service level on the listing must match what the outfitter actually sells and what the license covers. Lease offers are not listings: lease sections only link to public lease pages.
- Check claims and wording. No harvest guarantees, no invented statistics, no ratings or reviews copied from other sites, and no photos or text taken from third parties. Prices are shown only if the outfitter published them and we can cite the page.
- Write the editor's notes. A person writes at least 80 characters about what the check found (for example how the license appears in the agency lookup, or which public lands the permit covers).
- Separate money from verification. Paid placement never changes the checks. A paid listing that fails vetting is not published, and a free listing that passes is published.
- Re-check on a schedule. Licenses renew on the agency's schedule. Listings carry a last-verified date and are flagged for re-checking after the stale-after period set in rules.
Full checklist and which agency confirms licenses in each state: how we verify. We do not promise a turnaround time, and a listing that fails a check is not published.
Frequently asked questions
How do I pay for the upgraded listing?
Founding outfitters pay nothing: ask for the Founding offer through the claim form. After the first 25, use the $12/mo or $99/yr button on this page to pay on a secure Stripe payment page. The listing goes live only after a license check against state records where available, and the payment is refunded in full if it is not approved. The contact form itself never asks for payment details.
Does paying get me listed?
No. Every listing, free or paid, goes through the same review and the same license check against state records where available. The upgraded listing, paid or free as a Founding outfitter, gives placement and a Sponsored label only, never a license check.
Can I list a hunting lease or landowner access?
No. Lease sections on state pages only link to public lease search pages and state access programs; there are no paid, Sponsored or featured lease placements. Only commercial outfitters and guides are listed.
What should I NOT send?
Never send payment card or bank details, Social Security numbers, EINs/FEINs or other tax identifiers. We do not collect them and delete anything that looks like one. Do not send copied reviews, ratings or photos from other sites.
